Entries for U9-U15 Team Events 5th June open

The following athletes have been selected by Leinster Athletics to compete as the Irish Team at the upcoming CSIT Games in Riga, Latvia from 13-18 June. This is a major development initiative by Athletics Leinster to help our athletes gain experience at international completion at a very important stage in their athletics career. We would like to thank Athletics Ireland for their financial support in registering Athletics Leinster with CSIT and providing gear to the athletes. We would also like to thank all Counties for their nominations which shows the calibre of athletes we have in the Province. We would have liked to have brought more than 12 athletes but we believe it's a major commitment from Athletics Leinster in our athletes.

Congratulations all!

This year marks the fourth edition the Bertie Quinn Track and Field, organised by Tullamore Harriers.

Each of the first three years saw around 200 athletes competing in the meet and there have been some fine performances by Ireland's best youth and junior athletes, with multiple standards ran for European and World championships in these age grades. The competition has also acted as a platform for young athletes from Offaly and surrounding counties to try to improve their personal bests at the midlands venue.

Each year the performance of the meet is marked by presenting the athlete concerned with the Bertie Quinn Memorial Shield. Padraig Moran (Mullingar Harriers), Mark Milner (Tullamore Harriers) and Kevin McGrath (Bohermeen AC) are the three talented young runners who have won the award to date.

This year we are changing the format for the event significantly. Firstly, we are adding events for athletes under the age of sixteen for the first time in an 'Open Sports' type format with races and field events for athletes from 'Under 9' to 'Under 16'. Secondly, we are hoping to build on the success of the existing program of events by having races sponsored. Details of the sponsorship are below. Flyer for the event is here.

Message from the Indoor Secretary:

"As some of you are aware there were issues during the weekend with the timing system for the straight track (ie. 60m Sprint & Hurdles). The starting signal (which triggers the timing clocks) was only being received sporadically by the photofinish equipment at the beginning of the session. By the end of the session it wasn't being received at all. The cause is believed to be a fault in the stadium wiring under the track, however it is difficult to determine if this is correct or not until the supplier reviews the equipment. Unfortunately, Athletics Leinster can't take responsibility for this as the photofinish system is the property of the stadium.
We are sorry for any trouble this may have caused some athletes on Sunday but unfortunately it was out of our control. Any times attached in the results for the 60m Sprint are correct and accurate."

Thanks,
Andrew
