Bray Runners 40th Anniversary Trail Run

All members are invited to take part in our 40th Anniversary Trail Run which will take place on Thursday the 16th May in Belmont Demesne.
The event will start with a trail run for juveniles at 7.30pm followed by the senior run at 7.45.
Light refreshments will be provided in the Barn Cafe after the run.
There will be a photographic exhibition of the history of Bray Runners, including a tribute to the late Sean Clifford who was not only a founding member of the club but a member for the 40 years of the club's existence and was involved in planning this event.
Details of how to enter this trail run will be posted shortly.
This will be a great opportunity for club members to enjoy a panoramic trail run in Belmont, to chat to fellow club members afterwards and to learn something of the history and people who have been involved in Bray Runners over the past 40 years.

Rest in peace : Sean Clifford

Bray Runners is deeply saddened to learn that Sean Clifford, one of the club's founding members, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday night.
In 1984, Sean, alongside Pat McCourt, Dave Morrisroe and Jimmy Kavanagh, founded Bray Runners A.C, and Sean has been a stalwart of Bray Runners ever since.
Sean raced over distances from 5km to the marathon, and ran his first marathon in Dublin in 1982 (then in his mid-thirties) in a very respectable time of 3hr 14min and in subsequent years managed to lower that time to 2hr 38min.
Sean remained a very competitive runner well into his 60s, regularly clocking times of 18 minutes for the 5k (and much quicker than the majority of his younger clubmates at the time!). One of Sean’s key highlights as a masters athlete was in 2006, when he won a silver medal at the European Veteran Championships in Poznan (Poland) in the 10,000m.
In addition to being a very successful athlete, Sean also played many important roles over the years in Bray Runners, including as Chairperson, Men's Captain, he often led out senior club training, and he even kindly hosted some senior club awards nights in his home.
Sean remained active and interested in club activities right up until his unfortunate passing. In just the past few months, Sean was with us on Christmas Day at the Goal Mile, in February observing the Shanganagh parkrun, and most recently last month when we celebrated our annual club awards in Brady's in Shankill. He had also been keenly assisting in preparations for our club’s 40th anniversary celebration next month.
He will be missed greatly by all of us in Bray Runners A.C.
Our deepest sympathies and condolences to Sally, his wife, his children and their spouses and his grandchildren whom he adored.
May he rest in peace

Bohermeen AC Half Marathon

Typical March weather (cold & wet) did not dampen the spirits as a bus load of our athletes went to Meath for the Bohermeen AC Half Marathon, with many first timers over the distance and lots more looking to put a big effort in after completing a nice training block under the guidance of coach Bobby Mitchell. Incredible results prevailed! Congrats to all!
